Whole foods nourish the body, mind and soul

We love this BBQ sauce due first of all to the almost non-existent sugar content. Many BBQ sauces use ketchup, which is ladened in sugar, with brown sugar and a little vinegar to make their sauce.

This recipe uses apples for the sweet base with all-natural and healthy ingredients sans the excessive sugar to make this BBQ Sauce.

This can also be used like a marinade or even a saucy rub for ribs, chicken, or whatever you are BBQ or baking.

This is a classic style barbeque sauce, without sugar! The apples make it sweet enough. Smokey and sweet with just a hint of heat to finish.

  • 4 apples
  • ½ cup balsamic vinegar
  • ½ cup apple juice
  • 1⅔ cup diced canned tomatoes
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • 1 teaspoon dried chilies
  • 1 teaspoon peppercorns
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon ginger powder
  • 2 tablespoons coconut aminos
  • 1 bay leaf
  • ⅛ teaspoon hickory smoke

  1. Core and quarter the apples and place them in a heavy-bottom pot.
  2. Add the apple juice, canned tomatoes, garlic, balsamic vinegar, chilies, peppercorns, salt, paprika, and ginger powder.
  3. Bring to a boil and cover until apples are soft.
  4. CAREFULLY use an immersion blender and blend until smooth. It’s hot, so if you splash yourself, it will burn! Alternatively, you can remove it from the heat and let it cool until it is safe to blend.
  5. Add coconut aminos, hickory smoke, and bay leaf. Simmer for 40 minutes or until it thickens to desired consistency.
  6. Remove bay leaf and spoon into jars.
